Shepard Smith Calls Politics Weird, Creepy, and Divorced From Reality #funny

I am a political junky and I think this is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. In this clip, Shepard Smith of Fox News reacts to Mitt Romney reacting to Newt Gingrich quitting. He calls politics "'weird, and creepy, and now I know lacks even the loosest attachment to anything like reality" Yup!

But the political system has power, and policies matter to our lives and to the future of our country. It is useful to remember that politics can be weird and creepy and still be something worth caring about.

Boeing's Sonic Cruiser may not be economical, but it is very very cool!

Media_httpwwwflightgl_jmrth

Except for a few SSTs, issues of transonic drag have kept airliners traveling at a max speed of Mach 0.85 since the 1960's. Boeing has played with concepts like the Sonic Cruiser for upping that max speed to Mach 0.98. The comments in the flightglobal.com blog post make it clear that the Sonic Cruiser has to make too many sacrifices to achieve the extra speed for the plane to be economical (greater fuel use, slower loading and unloading of passengers and cargo, difficult in stretching the airframe later in the plane's life, etc.) I'm glad Boeing is still plugging away at the Sonic Cruiser, but I don't expect to see one of these on the runway at SFO anytime soon.

Does Dave Winer want Nick Denton to create OhmyNews with big media branding?

via flickr.com

Dave Winer describes what he wants Nick Denton to make in his "new publishing system". Dave says,

If I had a billion dollars (or some virtually infinite amount) I'd buy one of the big names of the news publishing world and transform it into a publication written by everyone.

I wonder how different Dave's vision is from OhmyNews, the online newspaper that started in South Korea and has the motto "every citizen is a reporter"?

Note that security is one challenge of a site with a lot of user generated content, Google identfies OhmyNews International, the English language home page of OhmyNews, as a site that may install malicious software on your computer. That's why I linked to the Wikipedia page describing OhmyNews, rather than to the English language site.

Cool jellyfish sculpture!

My Mother-in-Law is extreemly talented. She created this cool sculpture out of packing tape! She entered it in a contest; it would be great if you could visit and "Like" her entry! Her sculpture is titled "Look Up" featuring jellyfish, sharks, and a scuba diver. The contest, appropriately, is called "Off the Roll".

Paul Graham's "Frighteningly Ambitious Startup Ideas" Are Inspiring And Unbelievably Challenging

One of the more surprising things I've noticed while working on Y Combinator is how frightening the most ambitious startup ideas are. In this essay I'm going to demonstrate this phenomenon by describing some. Any one of them could make you a billionaire. That might sound like an attractive prospect, and yet when I describe these ideas you may notice you find yourself shrinking away from them.

Paul Graham presents a very cool essay on some very difficult problems. People will likely solve many of them someday. The solutions will make things better for a lot of folks and generate a ton of money. The people who make the solutions and the people who make the money are not necessary the same group.

Maybe I Was Hungry, But "50 of the World’s Best Breakfasts" Was Lots Of Fun!

Media_httpdesignyoutr_ghxjn

A full breakfast is my favorite meal. Design You Can Trust nails why with pictures and descriptions of 50 full breakfasts from around the world. I couldn't eat like this every morning or my diet would explode! But, I could do worse than to eat a different one of these breakfasts each week as cheep foodie / travel experience.
